11. Retrusive Control
Retrusive control is one of the methods to prevent mandible from moving backward,
and it enables to obtain adequate first molar and premolar occlusion. This means that
the maxillary premolar lingual cusp is located in the mandibular premolar distal fossa.
From buccal cusp, the mandibular premolar is located between maxillary premolar and
canine. This is especially important for the patients with level 2 malocclusion, central
displacement, and jaw joint disease.
These are the things that should be considered in diagnosis and treatment, as well as in
the non-extraction treatment, premolar extraction treatment, and finishing.
In particular, the finishing period can be minimized by using Composite Resin Bonding
on buccal cusp of mandibular premolar, mesial fossa and the lingual cusp of maxillary
premolar rather than the continuous use of rubber bands to complete occlusion at the
finish stage.
