9. Finishing Procedures (Part 1)

The finishing stage is one of the most difficult steps in orthodontic treatment.

First, we need to evaluate the skeleton and teeth in three dimensional planes.

When deciding whether to move teeth or bones, it is necessary to understand them.

MEAW has L-loops in between adjacent posterior teeth. It lowers the load deflection rate (LDR),

which not only applies weak force to the teeth, but also separates them from adjacent teeth,

enabling individual tooth movement.

Before making these MEAWs, it is important to understand how to prescribe MEAWs,

and to compare and understand the biomechanics of MEAW and NiTi archwire.

The MEAW can maximize the orthodontic effect by giving various torques depending on the cases.

In addition, the factors to be considered when making MEAW are explained.

Additionally, MEAW may be used in SWA devices. An understanding of

the adjustment of the MEAW is explained when using SWA devices.

Also, low angle deep bite treatment requires molar extrusion and anterior teeth intrusion.

However, due to strong masticatory muscles, it can be difficult to extrude molars.

To this end, by using reverse MEAW, in which the L-loop is facing the opposite direction,

molar extrusion and anterior teeth intrusion can be implemented successfully.
